Law-suits over Photography

Greek sues Turkish company in Sweden
6.9 million dollars for printing a picture on a "yoghurt" carton. Yup, that's always fun. Imagine getting a lawsuit slapped on your company because you didn't do enough research on a photograph! I wonder who got fired over that. But seriously, here's the details...
1. A Greek man's friend tells him that his picture is on a Turkish "Yoghurt" in Sweden.
2. Man decides that this is the perfect opportunity to be set for life.
3. The company gets a lawsuit for a picture they thought was in order because they bought it off a photo agency.
4. They come to find out, that the man was mostly suing because it was misleading as he wasn't Turkish...
If any of those strike you as a bit odd, I'm right there with you. First of all, I think it should be more of an issue that they used his picture without permission rather than where he was from. Secondly, 6.9 million (50 million kroner) is quite a bit for any company to dish out to a lawsuit. The greatest part about this is, if they had done their research, they wouldn't even of had to worry about it. This lesson can be applied to our children... why doing your homework is important... 6.9 million dollars.

well, my pic would probably break the camera, that is why it seems that painting with words is a lot less problematic, take care and thankyou for your kind commnents on my hub, by the way. really liked this story...
i know, but i also know most do not wait around for that inner beauty to show, that being said, your comment was kind, take care, heehee. good night.
Hey anyone can steal any of my pictures anytime they want to, just go to any of my awesome hub articles steal a picture I only ask that you leave a comment letting me know why you deem my photographs worthy of theft.
I guess that really wouldn't be stealing if I give you permission but I think my art should be shared with the world . . . but I think yogurt is evil so don't put it on a yogurt carton
Manly men don't do pink however magenta is a color and so I should try to keep an open mind or I might be accused of being a hypocrite . . . oooh that isn't an insult is it?

I agree! Using photos without permission should be more of an issue, but unfortunately (see my article on photography laws), photographers have more rights than the photographed do today. I especially cringe when my photos are used or published online without my permission or knowledge. How do we tame that beast?
